With a grant from the Humanities Council, Sandra Rainero – from Italy- doing graduate work at the University of Kansas made a documentary centered on the Italians in SE Kansas and the Italian newspaper Il Lavoratore Italiano,published in Frontenac. I was asked to contribute a small piece on the Amazon Army. The town and its Italian heritage, as well as, its coalmining roots, are highlighted in the film.
